I’m a New Yorker and REALLY fussy about Italian food. After so many disappointments with “Italian” cuisine in Asheville, Chiesa was a welcome surprise. Great ambiance. Bright, balanced sauces and fresh pasta. The shrimp scampi was divine-I wanted to lick the bowl! A well curated wine list. Attentive, but not invasive service, and affordable to boot. This is one of the most satisfying dining experiences I’ve had in the decade or so I’ve been living in Asheville. Go. Enjoy. Chiesa is one of Asheville’s best kept secrets…but it won’t be for long. -Kate O.

Fantastico! If you only have one day to visit Asheville, dining at chiesa is a must and only restaurant choice! My wife and I absolutely loved everything about the restaurant. We were in Asheville for several days celebrating the New Year and had dinner at chiesa. The food was fantastic as was the staff. We felt like one of the regulars given the hospitality of Robert and AJ. We will be back! -Paul and Beth E.

Fine, relaxed and delicious Italian dining. The staff is super friendly, the owners take a lot of pride in their restaurant and it shows in the food. One other great thing about this place is that the menu changes each day meaning you get the best high quality ingredients opposed to frozen/processed and prepared meals, which are often offered at chain restaurants. But…if you want to know what’s being served that day, the menu is available on their website. We will definitely be returning in the near future. What a gem of a restaurant hidden away in the beautiful Montford area. – Lisa R.

Enjoyed an amazing dinner out tonight at Chiesa and will definitely be back again soon. An ample wine and beer selection, paired with homemade pasta and fresh quality local ingredients made this the perfect destination for date night.

We started with the deviled eggs, then followed with a house salad for my husband and sweet potato soup for me. We came hungry and all were delicious. My husband had the sweet sausage (meat from Hickory Nut Gap) and roasted red peppers served over fettuccine, and loved it. I had the veggie “pasta,” which included ribbons of zucchini, squash and carrots in garlic-shallot lemon sauce, which was extremely flavorful and filling. Because we were really going all out, we ended with the homemade lavender pear bread pudding, which was without a doubt one of the best desserts I’ve ever had. Don’t leave without trying it.

The ambience is great too. Tucked inside what once was a church (hence “Chiesa,” the Italian word for church), the atmosphere is simultaneously lovely and homey, well decorated yet understated. Owner Robert is extremely attentive, being sure to stop in and make his presence known and friendly demeanor felt at all tables. All in all, this is definitely our new Asheville go-to spot for delicious and affordable Italian food. – Cari B.

This newly opened neighborhood gem has a wonderful atmosphere. It’s in a beautifully renovated old church (and thus the name, “Chiesa” — “church” in Italian) that’s just a few blocks from downtown Asheville. The food was delicious, with some traditional Italian dishes as well as some clever twists on Italian fare (my favorites were the Mediterranean Deviled Eggs — a cross between traditional Italian flavors and church potluck fare –and the Italian orange soda with fresh sage!)The service was prompt, attentive, and very friendly. A great new addition to Asheville and Montford! – Lauren R.

Chiesa offers a welcoming atmosphere where you are sure to be greeted by one of the owners who genuinely wants to offer a delicious non-fussy evening out. Nestled within the historic neighborhood of Montford, the structure is a 100 year old building that was formerly a grocery store, then a church (which boasts original pews as part of the décor). While the menu selections are not vast…what they do, they do well. My go-to dish is the Hickory Nut Gap Farm beef gravy (red sauce) over house made fettuccine. Additionally, when the Maryland crab soup is on the menu, get it. The prices are reasonable, generally $15 – $18 for an entrée, and it is nice to note you do not feel pressure or snobbery to get an expensive bottle of wine. The staff takes the right balance of being attentive, yet not disruptive to conversations around the table. – Elizabeth A.

Came here for dinner while enjoying a weekend visit to Asheville. All around it was a great experience. Made a reservation online and were quickly taken care of when we arrived. They seemed to be dealing with several large parties while we were there, but it had no effect on the quality of service. Our waitress gave us some great advice on a bottle of wine. Our meals were excellent. I would highly recommend a visit.

On November 24 we had dinner with our friends and family at chiesa. The food was melt in your mouth excellent and our waitress cheerful and helpful. This past summer we spent two weeks in Italy eating amazing food and I can honestly say that your food is just as good as what we had there. Now when I want authentic, creative, fabulous Italian food I don’t have to get on a plane and fly across the ocean! I can simply drive to chiesa. Thank you! Thank you! Ana

I’ve lived in this area for decades. chiesa is my favorite restaurant. Robert and Melissa are both delightful hosts. The waitstaff are like family to me. They are friendly and accommodating. They seem to have a good time doing all they do, working hard yet enjoying the process of providing great food for others. I travel quite a bit, and often for me, coming home means going to chiesa.

You never know what you’ll get when ordering lasagna, but not here. Authentic, great sauce, good layering, mouth watering! The service was outstanding, the ambiance friendly, parking on the street, what’s not to like? Taking a chance on a new restaurant for my wife’s birthday was a risk that paid off with finding what will become a new favorite.
